Define whether the brief concerns absorption or isolation
Sound absorption addresses reflections within a space; sound isolation addresses transmission between spaces or through an opening. A fabric absorption result does not prove the noise reduction of a complete installed curtain system.
- State the room, noise source, objective and relevant project requirement.
- Request the test standard, specimen, mounting and report source for the exact material.
- Do not transfer a fabric-only result to a different fullness or complete assembly.
- Identify when an acoustic consultant or project-specific assessment is required.

Connect fullness and air gaps to the tested condition
Curtain width, pleat or fullness, layers, lining, air gap, edge return and floor or ceiling gaps change the installed geometry. Compare the proposed arrangement with the report conditions rather than quoting one number without context.
- Record track length, curtain width and stated fullness.
- Confirm single or multiple layers and the intended air gap.
- Document perimeter gaps, overlap and stack-back requirements.
- Keep report conditions and approved deviations with the order.

Check track capacity, operation and access
The chosen track and fixings must support the complete curtain weight and operating method. Curves, joins, motorisation, stack position, substrate and maintenance access belong in the same specification.

Trade FAQ
Does an acoustic fabric report prove room noise reduction?
No. Check what was tested, the method, specimen and mounting. The complete curtain’s fullness, layers, air gaps, perimeter gaps, track and installation can produce a different result.
What should a quote request include?
Include the room and objective, opening dimensions, proposed fabric and layers, fullness, lining, track and control, report requirements, substrate, installation scope and target date.
