Absorption or Isolation? Confirm the Brief Before You Quote.
Acoustic curtains help reduce echo and reverberation inside a room. They do not isolate a room from outside noise. Traffic or neighbour noise travels through glazing, frames, seals and gaps, and needs a separate assessment of the window and building. Setting this out at the brief stage protects you and your client’s expectations.
- The problem: echo, speech clarity, or noise coming in from outside.
- Room size, ceiling height and hard surfaces such as glass, stone and timber.
- The window or opening, and the wall and ceiling area available for curtains.
- Other needs: light control, privacy, thermal comfort and fire requirements.

Commercial acoustic curtains and fire-rated fabrics
For hotels, offices, education, healthcare and hospitality projects, we source selected acoustic fabrics and sheers with fire test reports to AS 1530.2 and/or AS/NZS 1530.3. The test and index required depend on the building class and where the curtain hangs under the NCC. Your building surveyor or fire engineer confirms the requirement; we match the fabric and documents to it.
- Fire test reports supplied with the selected fabric for your compliance file.
- Acoustic test data (αw or NRC) where the fabric has been tested.
- Motorised options with Somfy, Dooya or A-OK systems for large or high openings.
- Coordinated with ceilings, lighting and services in the fit-out.
Open the commercial-space guide
| Space | Typical objective | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Hotel rooms and serviced apartments | Sleep, light control, a quieter room feel | Blockout or dim-out layers, fire reports, durability, cleaning |
| Offices, boardrooms and meeting rooms | Speech clarity and less echo | Absorptive fabric, curtain area, wave or pleat fullness |
| Schools, halls and dance studios | Less reverberation in large hard rooms | Large spans, heavy-duty track, ceiling recess, robust fabric |
| Restaurants and hospitality | Less noise build-up | Fabric area, fire reports, maintenance |

Residential Acoustic Fabrics, Selected from Europe and Asia
For homes, we source acoustic and high-density fabrics from mills in Europe, including the UK, and Asia, alongside LuxAura linen and Australian trade brands. Your client chooses the decorative face; we add the acoustic layers behind it. Imported fabrics allow about 8 weeks from order.
Open the residential-room guide
| Room | What curtains can help with | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| Home theatre and media rooms | Reflections from glass and hard walls | Full-wall coverage, dark lining, motorisation |
| Music and piano rooms | A more comfortable sound inside the room | Absorptive fabric and curtain area; isolation is a separate building task |
| Open-plan living | Echo from glass, stone and timber | Full-height coverage, stack position, daylight when open |
| Bedrooms on busy roads | Light, privacy and some reduction of reflected sound | Glazing, frames and seals carry most outside noise |

One Acoustic Curtain, Many Possible Constructions
Weight alone does not make a curtain acoustic. Performance depends on the textile, the layers, fullness, air space, coverage and installation, and on whether the objective is absorption or isolation. We confirm the layers for each brief, then specify the track for the finished weight.
- Decorative face fabric, or a tested acoustic face fabric.
- Absorptive or dense interlining, if required.
- Blockout or thermal lining, if required.
- Air space and installed coverage.
- The glazing and surrounding opening.
- Blockout lining controls light. On its own, it is not evidence of sound isolation.

Heavy-Duty Tracks and Acoustic Installation Design
Multi-layer acoustic curtains at generous fullness can weigh far more than a standard drape. We specify the track, brackets and fixing substrate for the finished curtain, not the fabric alone, and detail the installation to close the gaps where sound and light escape.
- Ceiling-recessed or ceiling-fixed track to close the head gap.
- Wall returns and centre overlap to close side and centre gaps.
- Floor clearance set for the room’s use and cleaning.
- Double or triple track for a sheer plus an acoustic layer.
- Curved and bay tracks for shaped windows.
- Rated load, bracket spacing and fixing into suitable substrate.
- Motor choice, power position and service access.

Match the Quoted Performance to the Tested Construction
A test report applies to the fabric and the mounting it was tested with. For selected functional fabrics, we provide the product report so you can check it against your specification. A result for one configuration does not cover every lined, layered or pleated curtain made from that fabric.
- Fabric reference, composition and mass per square metre.
- Acoustic test method (for example ISO 354), the rating (αw or NRC), tested fullness and air gap.
- Fire test standard, index and test date.
- Do not convert αw or NRC into a sound isolation figure for the installed room.

Trade FAQ
Will an acoustic curtain stop traffic noise?
No. Acoustic curtains help reduce echo inside a room. Traffic noise mainly enters through glazing, frames and gaps, which need a separate assessment. A curtain can be one part of that solution, not the whole of it.
Can you provide acoustic and fire test documents?
Yes, for selected fabrics. Each report names the standard, method and tested configuration. We match the documents to your brief before production.
Which fire standard do commercial curtains need in Australia?
It depends on the building class and where the curtain hangs under the NCC. Curtains are commonly assessed to AS 1530.2 or AS/NZS 1530.3. Your building surveyor or fire engineer confirms the requirement for the project.
Can you make acoustic curtains with our client’s chosen fabric?
Often, yes. Your client’s fabric can be the decorative face, with acoustic interlining and lining behind it. We check the finished weight, track and any fire requirement first.
Do you supply acoustic sheers?
Yes. We supply selected sheers with acoustic test data and selected fire-tested sheers. A sheer absorbs less sound than a heavy lined curtain, so the two are often combined on a double track.
Do you install?
Yes, across Sydney. Our installation team is insured, works to your order and does not sell to your client.
Do you supply outside Sydney?
Yes. Curtains are made to your measurements and delivered Australia-wide.
What is the lead time?
About 4 weeks from order with LuxAura fabric, 4 to 6 weeks from receipt of your own fabric, or about 8 weeks from order for imported acoustic fabrics. Track and motor lead times are confirmed with the quote.
Do you supply fire-rated acoustic curtains?
Yes. We supply commercial acoustic curtains in selected fabrics with fire test reports to AS 1530.2 and/or AS/NZS 1530.3, matched to the requirement for your building.
Specifications, lead times and warranty terms are confirmed for each order in writing. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected.
