Linen, Printed Fabrics and Customer-Supplied Fabric
Your fabric or our sourcing: we review the fabric before cutting. Decorative prints, LuxAura Linen and linen blends can produce different results when lined, pieced or repeatedly folded.
Open the fabric review checklist
| We check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Fibre content | Affects hand, creasing, care and how the fabric folds. |
| Weight | Affects drape, folding and lifted weight on motorised blinds. |
| Usable width | Decides whether the blind needs joins. |
| Vertical and horizontal repeats | Decide allowance and pattern placement. |
| Directional print or nap | Must run the same way on every blind in the order. |
| Embroidery and coatings | Can limit folding, sewing and care. |
| Batch | Keeps blinds in related windows consistent. |
LuxAura Linen and Linen Blends for Roman Blinds
LuxAura Linen includes pure linen woven from French flax yarn and a linen-cotton blend, in plains, stripes and prints. About 150 to 300 gsm is a useful starting point for Roman blinds, with final suitability confirmed from the weave, finish, lining and construction.
- Pure linen: natural texture and drape, with the relaxed creasing linen is known for.
- Linen-cotton blend: a softer hand and less creasing than pure linen.
- Stripes and prints: repeat and alignment are confirmed before cutting.
Choosing a Lining for a Roman Blind
Lining changes how a blind hangs, folds and handles light. Tell us the light control and privacy required and we confirm the combination at quote stage.
Open the lining comparison
| Lining | Effect | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Unlined | Light passes through; weave and print show fully. | Suits fabrics that hold shape without a second layer. |
| Lined | A second layer adds body and protects the face fabric. | Added layers change weight and folding. |
| Light-filtering | Softens daylight and keeps the room bright. | Tell us the privacy level required. |
| Blockout | Blocks most light for bedrooms and media rooms. | Heavier; confirm lifted weight on motorised blinds. |
| Interlined | Adds body and fuller folds. | Adds weight; confirm lift system and motor. |
Pattern Matching, Joins and Cutting Allowances
Before cutting, we record usable width, repeats, direction and batch, then confirm the layout with you.
Open the cutting-plan guide
| Situation | What we confirm |
|---|---|
| Blind wider than usable fabric width | Where joins fall and how the pattern matches across them. |
| Large pattern repeat | Repeat allowance and where the pattern starts at the hem and raised stack. |
| Directional print or nap | The direction on every blind, recorded on the cutting plan. |
| Several related windows | Batch continuity and repeat allowance shared across windows. |
| Soft or waterfall styles | Extra fabric required and how the print reads through the folds. |

Matching Trims and Borders to Your Fabric
A trim or border should suit the base fabric in colour, scale and care. We check it against the production fabric before cutting.
- Check the trim against the production fabric and lining together.
- Check that fabric, lining and trim can be cared for in the same way.

Trade FAQ
Can linen be used for Roman blinds?
Yes. Linen gives a natural, textured look and suits flat and relaxed styles well. It can crease and relax in use, and lining and construction change how it hangs, so we review each linen before cutting.
What is the difference between pure linen and a linen blend for Roman blinds?
Pure linen, woven from French flax yarn in LuxAura Linen, has natural texture and relaxed creasing. A linen-cotton blend has a softer hand and creases less. Both can be lined, and we review the weight and weave for the style you choose.
Does lining change how a Roman blind folds and hangs?
Yes. Each added layer changes the weight, the hand and the way the blind folds. Decide the face fabric and the lining as a pair, and tell us the light control you need. We confirm the combination before cutting.
When does a Roman blind need a fabric join?
A join is needed when the blind is wider than the usable fabric width. We plan where the joins fall and match the pattern across them before cutting, and confirm the layout with you.
How do you handle pattern repeat across several windows?
We check the vertical and horizontal repeats and share the repeat allowance across related windows, so the blinds in one room read as a set. Send the window sizes and the repeat size and we confirm the fabric required before you order.
Can you work with directional or napped fabrics?
Yes, with care. A directional print or a nap must run the same way on every blind in the order. We identify the direction before cutting and record it on the cutting plan, so every blind matches.
Can embroidered or coated fabrics be made into Roman blinds?
Often, but they can limit folding, sewing and care. We review embroidery and coatings before cutting, tell you what the fabric can and cannot do, and confirm the construction that suits it.
How do you keep fabric consistent across a project?
We check the batch continuity of the fabric and share the repeat allowance across related windows. If a project will be ordered in stages, tell us early so we can plan the fabric allocation.
What should I send when I ask you to assess a fabric?
Send the fabric reference or a sample, with fibre content, weight, usable width and repeat sizes if known, plus the blind style and finished size. We review it before cutting and tell you about any limits.
Can you supply fire-retardant fabric for commercial Roman blinds?
For commercial projects, we supply fabrics to Australian fire safety standards. Tell us the project requirements and the fabric you have in mind, and we confirm suitable fabric and lining before quoting.
Specifications, lead times and warranty terms are confirmed for each order in writing. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected.
