Motorised Roman Blinds and Wide Windows
Windows wider than 2.3m are motorised. Our usual maximum is 340cm wide x 300cm drop, depending on fabric, while larger blinds up to 5 to 6m wide are available by arrangement and planned individually.
- Calculate total lifted weight including lining, rods, trims and bottom bar.
- Confirm headrail, lift spools, cord layout and motor as one compatible system.
- Record power source, control protocol, side of power entry and charging access.
- Consider aligned separate panels for wide glazing and individual room control.
- Confirm the motor and style combination at quote stage.
What to Confirm for Each Motorised Roman Blind
Record these decisions before the production order is approved.
Open the motorised order checklist
| Confirm | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Total lifted weight | Sizes the motor. Include lining, rods, trims and bottom bar. |
| Headrail, lift spools and cord layout | These and the motor must work as one compatible system. |
| Power source | Decides how the blind is powered and installed. |
| Side of power entry | Decides where power connects at the headrail. |
| Control protocol | Decides which controls operate the blind. |
| Charging access | A rechargeable motor must remain reachable. |
| Panel layout | Aligned separate panels give wide glazing individual control. |
Where Motorised Roman Blinds Suit
Motorisation is most often chosen for heavy blinds, wide glazing and windows that are high or difficult to reach. We confirm the final choice against the fabric and window.
- Heavier blinds, including lined blinds and blinds with rods, trims or a heavy bottom bar.
- High or difficult-to-reach windows where a cord or chain is awkward.
- Wide glazing where aligned separate panels provide individual control.
- Windows wider than 2.3m, which are motorised.

Trade FAQ
Which motors do you supply for Roman blinds?
We supply Somfy, Dooya and A-OK motorisation. Each motor is checked against the actual headrail, lift spools, cord layout and lifted load, so the blind operates reliably for its size and fabric weight.
How wide can a motorised Roman blind be?
Our usual maximum is 340cm wide by 300cm drop, depending on the fabric type. Larger motorised blinds, up to 5 to 6m wide, can be made by arrangement. Transport and the fabric are the main limits, so we plan each large blind individually.
Do Roman blinds wider than 2.3m have to be motorised?
Yes. Manual Roman blinds are made up to 2.3m wide, so wider blinds are motorised. Send us the window size and fabric and we will confirm the best arrangement.
Should wide glazing use one large blind or separate panels?
One large blind is not automatically the best solution. Aligned separate panels give individual control and can suit wide glazing and individual rooms. We advise on the layout from the window size, the fabric and how the space is used.
What do you need to size a motor for a Roman blind?
We need the finished size and the total lifted weight, including lining, rods, trims and the bottom bar. We then confirm the headrail, lift spools, cord layout and motor as one compatible system before production.
Can every Roman blind style be motorised?
Not every combination is available. It depends on the style, size and fabric weight, and we confirm the style and motor combination at quote stage. State the style and the control you want when you send your brief.
What power and control details should I specify?
Record the power source, control protocol, side of power entry and charging access for each blind. These decide how the blind is installed and operated. Tell us your requirements and we will confirm a compatible system.
Is motorisation suited to heavy or lined blinds?
Often, yes. Motorisation helps with heavier blinds and with high or difficult-to-reach windows. We calculate the total lifted weight, including lining, rods, trims and the bottom bar, before confirming the motor.
Can motorised blinds be made from our own fabric?
Yes. Send the fabric reference and we check usable width, pattern repeat and weight before confirming the motor. You can also use LuxAura Linen or an Australian trade brand, with trims applied.
What is the lead time for motorised Roman blinds?
Standard lead time is 4 to 6 weeks, confirmed in writing with your quote. It depends on the fabric, the style and the control system.
Can LuxAura install motorised Roman blinds in Sydney?
Yes, by arrangement. Choose supply only, measuring, installation, or a combined scope, across the CBD and inner city, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, Lower and Upper North Shore, Northern Beaches, Southern Sydney, Western Sydney and the Hills District. We confirm power and commissioning responsibilities for motorised systems, and on-site work is quoted separately.
Can I see motorised options in person in Sydney?
Yes, by appointment. Trade customers can view samples at our Alexandria address. Contact the trade team to book, and tell us you want to see motorised options so we can confirm what is available.
Specifications, lead times and warranty terms are confirmed for each order in writing. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law are not affected.
