Match the fabric evidence to the cushion’s use
Decorative, high-use, seat, commercial and outdoor cushions place different demands on touch, shape, seams, cleaning and performance. Start with colour, print scale, texture and skin feel, then add the evidence required by the environment.
- High-use covers: review abrasion method, pilling, colourfastness, seam slippage and care.
- Commercial use: identify occupancy, cleaning and project-specific requirements; abrasion cycles alone are incomplete.
- Outdoor use: confirm documented exposure, drying, component and care conditions.
- Easy clean or stain resistant does not mean waterproof; fire, antimicrobial or fade claims require article-specific evidence.
Specify the zip as part of the sewing plan
YKK zips and Coats sewing threads are standard across the LuxAura cushion range. Record the exact zip type, length, position, colour and slider appearance, and select the appropriate thread article and seam for the approved fabric and use.
- Coordinate closure length with fabric thickness, piping or flange bulk and corner shape.
- Approve zip-end reinforcement, reverse appearance and seam balance on the sample.
- Confirm whether indoor components are suitable for stated outdoor conditions.
- Record the exact thread article, colour, stitch, seam and approved substitution process.
Fabrication & specification notes
The standard component brands do not guarantee the complete product. Approve closure access, seam balance, stitch density, edge shape, piping joins, zip-end reinforcement, reverse appearance and any stated indoor or outdoor conditions on the sample.
Define composition, weight, casing and target feel
Microfibre, Duck Feather and Goose Feather and Down create different support, softness, recovery and maintenance. The fill name alone is not a quality ranking; Goose Feather and Down is not described as 100% down without a current specification.
- Confirm composition and percentage where applicable, insert dimensions, fill weight and target loft.
- Approve support, softness, recovery and routine plumping for the intended customer.
- Confirm ticking, feather- or down-proof construction where relevant, and care guidance.
- Retain supplier article, tolerances and the approved reference sample for replenishment.

Is Goose Feather and Down automatically the best insert?
No. Confirm documented down content and any other fill, fill weight, casing, finished feel, maintenance and customer preference. Microfibre or Duck Feather may better suit a different brief.
Can Martindale and Wyzenbeek numbers be compared directly?
No. Retain the named method, standard, result and source for the exact fabric. Neither result alone proves suitability for every commercial cushion application.
