Motorised Roman Blinds: Weight, Power and Control

A Sydney trade guide to specifying motorised Roman blind dimensions, total assembly weight, power, controls, access and approval without relying on fabric GSM alone.

Calculate the complete moving assembly

Start with finished width and drop, then include face fabric, lining, rods or battens, pockets, bottom bar, trims and other moving components. Fabric GSM alone is not the motor load.

  • Record finished dimensions and the calculated or measured total moving weight.
  • Check whether joins, borders or trims change balance and fold behaviour.
  • Compare the complete assembly with the exact hardware and motor limits.
  • Around three metres wide is assessed as a project-specific configuration, not automatically approved.

Resolve power and control before manufacture

Confirm mains or low-voltage supply, cable and transformer location, wall switch, remote, automation interface, grouping and commissioning responsibility before the blind and surrounding finishes are completed.

  • Record the nominated power source and who provides the electrical work.
  • Define individual, grouped and scene-control requirements.
  • Confirm compatible controls rather than promising an unverified integration.
  • Keep service access to the motor, headrail, power supply and controls.

Approve the system, fabric and installation as one brief

The approved sample and order should connect fold geometry, lining, weight, motor system, controls, mounting, access, site readiness and the person responsible for final dimensions.

Trade FAQ

Can the motor be selected from fabric GSM?

No. Use the finished dimensions and total moving assembly weight, then check the current limits and installation conditions for the exact system.

What access should remain after installation?

Retain practical access to the headrail or drive, motor, power supply, controls and fixings as required by the selected system’s service instructions.
