Choose the blind structure before finalising the fabric
Flat, relaxed, waterfall or other soft Roman constructions do not distribute fabric and visual lines in the same way. Record the intended style, finished position, fold spacing, stack and lower-edge behaviour before cutting.
- Confirm inside or outside mount, finished width and drop, recess constraints and fixing substrate.
- Record fold spacing, pocket or rod method, stack position and visible reverse requirements.
- For prints, approve centre line, top motif, horizontal match and adjoining-window relationship.
- For relaxed or shaped styles, distinguish intended softness from uncontrolled sag.
Finished weight affects hardware and motor selection
Fabric GSM alone does not give the complete blind weight. Include lining, rods or battens, bottom bar, pockets, trims and the finished dimensions, then compare the total assembly with the selected system’s documented limits.
- Confirm mains or low-voltage power, cable route, controls and commissioning responsibility.
- Record whether multiple blinds must align or operate as a group.
- Keep the exact hardware or motor product sheet with the approved order.
- Treat supplier limits as system-specific; do not transfer them between brands or models.
Approve fabric, lining and sample as one construction
Review the face, reverse, seams, pockets, light transmission, pattern placement and fold recovery under conditions close to the intended installation. The sample should record any acceptable natural variation and the agreed finish.

Can a motor be selected from fabric GSM alone?
No. Use the total finished blind dimensions and assembly weight, then check the documented limits and installation conditions for the exact system.
When should pattern placement be approved?
Before cutting. Record the repeat, centre line, top and bottom motifs, adjoining-window relationship and any border or seam positions.
